The 4 gigabyte, second generation iPod Nano MP3 player was developed by the technology company Apple in 2006. It offers an audio-visual medium that operates with the MacOS X system and includes a USB-powered charging dock and a headphone port. It also includes a rectangular LCD display screen powered by a click wheel, as well as a switch on the top to power the device on and off. This iPod Nano’s original price was $199 and holds 1,000 songs.
Perhaps most noticeable is the second generation iPod Nano’s dimensions and colors; with a height of 3.5 in, length of 1.6 in, and width of 0.26 in, the device weighs just 1.41 ounces. Thin, lightweight, sleek, and colorful, the second generation Nano was an upgrade from it’s first generation counterpart which weighed slightly more and offered less features and color options. The significance of the iPod Nano is understated; it is a device that was introduced at the dawn of significant technological advances from the company it belongs to, Apple. Customers also have the option to personalize the device by choosing from a wide range of colors – allowing them to express their aesthetic interest with a portable music player. Like most new apple products at this time, consumers were racing to get a hold of the second generation iPod nano, making it and it’s value inseparable from the history of technology.
